Using wick trimmer keep your candle’s wick for a cleaner and longer burn. You can’t just any scissors to as a candle wick trimmer because usually they are too big that they may break your candle and they often can’t make a nice even trim line.

Usually, candle wick trimmers are made of stainless steel because the metal can withstand the candle flame’s heat well. Some of the wick trimmers come with special tray that will catch the cut wick,  stopping it from falling back into the candle, keeping your candles looking clean.

Most candle wick trimmers look like long, thin metal scissors, usually seen at professional manicurists or pedicurists. These trimmers are usually longer and tougher than these nail trimmers.  There are also candle wick trimmers that look like a long, durable plastic tube with metal blades inside.

If your candle wicks are kept to a proper length, then they won’t burn up your candle so fast and you can enjoy them longer.  Also, too much wick can sometimes lead to a strange smell, similar to burnt matches.  This can also lead to your candle’s flame being too large to safely handle.  A large flame burning for a long time can put undue stress on a glass candle holder and shatter it.

There are a few things to look for in a good candle wick trimmer.  It needs to be slender in order to dip into hot pillar candles.  It should cut the wick evenly and cleanly.  It also needs to be comfortable for your fingers.
